Flashback: 1970’s

I can’t believe I paid $30 for 12 gallons of gas tonight. Two weeks ago it was only about $24. What the hell is going on with gas prices? Everyone keeps saying there’s no shortage yet prices are still climbing. This is insane. I lived through, and vividly remember, the oil embargo of the 70’s and it was never anything like this.

  1. Yes – I remember the 70’s very well. Owned a 73 Dodge Charger with a 440-with dual-carb. The thing suck up hightest at 10-12 mpg if I pushed it. Then bought a used 70 Grand Fury which wasn’t much better. Both these vehicles had 24 gal tanks and at the worst of times, it still took $30 or more to fuel up in northern Ohio.
I was pumping gas as afterschool employment in 70-71 at $0.25 a gal. By the mid-70’s, it was up to a half-dollar. Then, the bottom fell out. Some areas of the country were paying around $2.00 a gallon by the late 70’s.
But – that was the late 70’s. The impact of that $2 on your wallet, TODAY, would be the same as over $6.00 per gallon, today!
Things may be messed up and hard to believe, but you’re better off than you think.
