If you’re familiar with the MS website for manually updating Windows (Windows Update.com) forget about it. With the release of SP2 for Windows XP Microsoft has revamped the update page.
The new page gives you the option of an Express Installation, all the “High Priority” updates for your system, and Custom Installation, “High Priority and Optional Updates”.
The real push is to get you to turn on Automatic Updates. Automatice Updates are a boon if you’re not paranoid about what’s being put on your computer or if system crashes aren’t a worry. They’re also great for MS because updates can be done faster and behind the scenes making for a more secure product.
Of course if you’re the person who hates automatic updates then, I’ll let you go back to your DOS 3.1.
