Anyone had any experience with a Minolta DiMage Scan Dual III film scanner?

I’m having just a bit of a problem with my Minolta DiMage Scan Dual III film scanner.

The hardware is showing up on the device manager but the light on the front won’t go to “ready” and just keeps blinking. When the interface application starts it just goes non-responsive in the first 5 seconds while setting up. Like it can’t communicate to the scanner.

I’ve installed and deleted and reinstalled drivers and the interface several times, restarting over and over. I’ve tried changing USB 2 ports. My next shot, unless someone can give me some enlightenment will be to remove the USB 2 PCI card and put it in another system. The USB 2 seems to be working ok as I have my dual optical mouse plugged in and it works great.

My thoughts are: 1) either an internal problem (loose wire, broken bulb, faulty switch et. al.) that won’t allow it to go to ready; or, 2) incorrect drivers. Usually when people say, the driver works in windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP I know it really doesn’t work in XP.

So if anyone can lend a hand, or knows someone who could help out, I’d greatly appreciate it. You can drop me an email here.

  1. Ok. I was able to get the light to stay on by holding dow the “eject” button and shutting it off and then turning it back on (is that a reset feature?). It even pulled the film holder in to the first frame, the application however, still seems to be timing out. Now, however, it’s giving me an error of 4 which the book says is that it can’t communicate with the scanner. I’m even more lost now.
